7/17/19 Wednesday Lunch Paddle @ Odiorne

Recommended Posts

Friends, Romans, Paddlers,

NSPN Wednesday Lunch Paddle #12 takes place on July 17, 2019.

Put In:Odiorne Point Boat Launch.
PM me if you need further directions.

This trip doesn't have a specific level: we'll determine the route based on who shows up, what people want to do, and what the environment wants to do. All properly equipped members are welcome: please bring rigged boats with deck lines, bulkheads, spray skirts, and dress for immersion.

Current forecast is light winds out of the west to southwest and temperatures in the 80's, water temp mid 60's. Sunny, but we'll have to watch for a chance of thunderstorms around 2 PM. Long period one foot swells. High tide is 11:50 am.

Let's meet at 10 am sharp, and ready to launch around 10.20 am. Then we'll have a beach briefing, make a plan together based on what people feel like doing, and get on the water, hopefully around 10.30 am.

NOTE: The Wednesday Lunch Paddles are cooperative adventures, not guided trips. Each participant is responsible for her/his own safety. Don’t assume the trip initiators are smarter, stronger, better at rough water, more attractive, or more skilled paddlers than you are. For more information, see this description of our trip philosophy from the NSPN web site.  A waiver/float plan will be created at the launch, so there's no need to commit in advance. It's always 100% OK to show up, decide you don't like the conditions or the trip, and opt out.

Since Bob and Joe are both away this week, I'm filling in. If you have any questions, contact me by phone, message or email.

If you're interested in coming, it's nice if you let us know by posting on this thread. There is no calendar entry for this particular trip. Other conversation (including stating your interest in going) can also happen on this thread.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Hi Jim,

Strained some arms muscles. Will have to skip this week.

Have a great trip.

I’m planning to be there.  Any chance of an earlier start to beat tstorns off the water?  Also easier to beat traffic out of the city.

Prudence it's easy for me to be there by 9. Let's plan on that unless others chime in who can't get there that early.

I think David is planning to join.  OK with you, David?  I have to be on the road back to Cambridge By 2:30-3 pm at the latest so earlier start is better for me...

Hi Jim,

Largely I have tried to be a regular at these Wednesday paddles, however, tomorrow I'm heading north for 5 or 6 days.  I'm assuming I'll be there next week.

Enjoy, Sue

Trip is finalized for 9:00 am meeting at Odiorne. Route will be determined by group at launch and modified as needed by conditions but here is one possibility to White Island:

A sheltered porch is available on Wood Island if needed. We may decide we don't want to be that far off shore if the forecast worsens, or to face headwinds on the return. I haven't been to White Island though and would like to go.

Forecast has deteriorated some. I still intend to go, we may need to adjust route so as to have options to avoid getting caught in a thunderstorm.

I am leaning toward not going.  Long drive for risk of being driven off water early.  Will post final decision this evening.

I'll be there. 50 percent chance of not getting rained on!
