Jim Snyder
Probably a lot of you are already doing this but I wanted to mention a good chart idea I had. I'm taking portions of NOAA .pdf charts, which I believe to be in the public domain, and create 11" x 17" segments of areas most used. I pick up the compass rose from wherever on the chart and drop it in an open area. Then I have Staples laminate a print on both sides of a 11" x 17". The result is a chart of the distance that might be covered in a paddle in a larger scale with a compass rose in a size that fits nicely on a deck for $5.27. If anyone would like me to produce these for them, I will be making more over the next couple of months. Here are the images I've done so far, feel free to use them:
mhabich
Jim, More discussion on this in a previous topic, Don't forget to add a scale and lat/long. I got tired of paying Staples for lamination (already have a 11x17 printer), and got a cheap Amazon Basics laminator, about $30. Works great. A pack of 100 laminating sheets costs more than the gadget, but maybe people could get together and split a pack.
Dan Foster
I write mapping and charting software, so I've been creating 24x36" PDF charts with magnetic lines, scale bars, and compass rose overlays, and printing them at Staples. They charge $5.89 for a sheet. I was going to offer to create a series of standard PDF charts for popular club destinations, but the initial feedback I got was that everyone preferred waterproof charts over paper charts. Jim Snyder
Everyone has their preferences but what I like about these is that I can control the scale so I don't have a lot of chart on the deck that I don't need, and the 11 x 17 waterproof fits perfectly on the deck. We;ll see after I've tried them out. Update, I printed three more yesterday and they only charged me $4 and change Maybe I'll take the next batch to Mike's.
