Longevity of Thule buckle straps

Just noticed that my Thule buckle straps are slipping. I first noticed it on the car, but then  tied them in a loose loop around a tree and pulled:  the buckles do slip a bit. I'm not sure if they always did this or not, but noticed that the area where webbing normally contacts the buckle is a bit 'pilled'. Perhaps it's this pilling, or the buckle spring, or the buckle serrations are less,  or maybe they've always done this.

Has anyone else noticed  old cam buckle straps starting to slip?  In general, how long a lifetima can one expect out of them? (Mine are probably ~10 yrs old.)  I suppose it's time for new buckle straps all around, but thought I'd first ask.
