Joseph Berkovitz
I’m going to find myself in Portland Thursday morning with an opportunity to paddle from 9 am to 1 pm. If anyone would like to join we can form a plan to suit ourselves - one option is to go around Peaks and/or Cushing, conditions permitting. The forecast is for 5-10 kt SSE and fair weather, 50s, 2-3 ft. Launching from Eastern Promenade. If you’re interested please respond and I’ll follow up by PM. Definitely a dry suit situation given sub-50s water temps in Gulf of Maine.
Jim Snyder
It might be a trick for me to get there by 9 but I'm potentially in.
Joseph Berkovitz
This very-short-notice paddle wound up being a solo. Conditions began foggy/light-and-variable, improved to overcast/clearing/5-10 kt S. Mostly protected route due to time limitations, but included some enjoyable minutes of swell at Peaks. Max ebb was around the middle of the trip, but currents mostly < 1 kt. Along the way I visited Cow Island which is owned by https://www.rippleffectmaine.org/ a nonprofit supporting urban kids in adventure programs. I spoke with one of the staff who happened to be there. Seems like a very cool venture and perhaps something worth reproducing here -- I wonder if we have something comparable in the Boston area? Seems like we should!
