  1. Happy New Year! It's time again to think about the coming year and where your kayak might take you - literally, figuratively, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically . . . you get the idea. I posted my goals for 2013 last year and have done a pretty good job on them. Accomplished some and not others, but the point was to reach for something and learn along the way, which I most definitely did. The thing I learned most is that there's so much to learn, I might set out to work on one skill and end up learning another one entirely! It's all good! So, here, in no particular order, are my goals for 2014: - get in better physical shape to make it easier to kayak (yes, there's lots of other good reasons, but this is a kayak message forum!) - kayak more than in 2013 - learn/practice/work on surfing - this is the tough one - not a big fan of surfing - get on those standing waves and continue to learn and have fun - this is the easy one! They were the big challenge last year and now I like them - thanks Lorrie Allen! - improve my forward stroke - this needs to be on the list every year! What are your kayaking goals for the coming year?
  2. Happy New Year everyone! Of course on this day, I'm thinking about the coming year. I'm posting my kayaking goals for 2013, in no particular order, but I did try to make them measurable. Get off the foot pegs Find the ‘real’ edge of my boat (not just the one in my head) and get on it – this will involve improving my high brace sculling and getting wet Purposefully put my boat in a standing wave and do not freak out and windmill paddle. Learn to be comfortable with the instability and overcome the disorientation. Encourage a new paddler and teach a skill BCU 3 Star Paddle more than in 2012 Have fun and be safe! What are your goals?
