  1. If anyone signed up for 1/13/23 pool session and can't make it please let me know I'll happily pay for your spot. Thanks!
  2. Any pool sessions in the works? Just did the Autumn Gales event down in Stonington, roll was feeling a little tentative, maybe time for a back-to-fundamentals practice session somewhere warm. If anyone is interested the hope is to do a pool session and then follow it up with an ocean session within a couple days following the pool, ideally with a strong onshore wind kicking up chop, and if possible a jetty or harbor so we have the option of sheltered or windy / bumpy water.
  3. Nice! Sounds like you went counterclockwise catching the Hudson on the ebb, we went clockwise Inwood to Inwood. Must have been fun with a group
  4. Manhattan circumnavigation currents and planning tool: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1wbABUdbEe0yu62hwT9v2BeL9RSU9wx431bL52AvprsM/edit Hey folks above please find a link to a Google Slides deck with some notes regarding the currents in the “rivers” / tidal estuaries surrounding Manhattan. I made this following a trip around Manhattan last week (June 13) with another paddler who like me is not from NYC. We did an OK job of managing the current in our favor (we got the critical East River right) but could have done better. I found this to be a technically challenging paddle with exposure to a number of risks, I’d be happy to discuss with anyone planning a trip down there however I would also say that joining a guided tour is a good way to do this for the first time. If anyone sees any errors please let me know, and if this post becomes a place where people share warnings / advice about this particular route that’s great.
  5. Following! Interested but will depend on timing vs visiting family schedules TBD.
  6. Hey I'm sorry to have missed this, will monitor NSPN calendar in the future! Great to find a bunch of people doing this kind of training.
  7. Quick note it’s not a great longboat day here — steep faces breaking pretty close to shore and very crowded where it’s good, about 18 people on boards in the water, not much happening at the edge of the break
  8. Anyone interested in surfing tomorrow AM (Wednesday)? There’s good swell at Nahant (and everywhere) 3’@13s, 29 degrees, offshore-ish wind 15 gusting to 25, water temp 52, low tide 8am I was thinking start around 7. I am not a guide and cannot assess anyone else’s gear or ability to do this, just would love to paddle tomorrow and would be happier if I could put a small group together. Apologies if I’m not following any trip planning protocol I’m erring on the side of posting this ASAP happy to correct this as instructed.
  9. Hope to make a couple of these this summer. Thanks for organizing
