Nice trip. Thank you Jim for posting it! -
In Salem, MA we had flooding as well. The pictures below were taking at high tide (11.05 feet) yesterday. The kid was having a good time. Many basements in The Willows were flooded.

Thank you Sue for pointing this very important thread, which I was not following... And thank you Joe and everyone for sharing your stories and for your suggestions. Frankly, I had never thought that it will be hard to get out of the boat while upside down... your postings have changed my mind. I will practice with my thickest gloves...

13 years later this topic is still quite current, at least for me. Several weeks ago I bought an (used) four-part (travel) Werner paddle that was (every time) very difficult to take apart where the blades ends meet the shafts. Last week I sent an email to Werner. They answered the next day (!) with the following information: Issues with your paddle sticking. 1. Please be sure to clean them regularly with warm soapy water. 2. Be sure the blade ends that connect to the shaft are on the correct side. Right blade with the button area and left blade with the ferrule area shaft. 3. If you are having problems putting them together you can use a no abrasive scrubby from the kitchen to sand them down a small amount not to much but enough to clean any outer coat to fit better. They are working nicely now. Will continue to take them apart after each paddle and wash with warm soapy water... In Werner's website I did not see the scrubby advice but they do say not to use lubricants. Cheers!

The Tsunami Rangers has an article on rock gardening with a great photo of NSPN member Cath Kimball (although they spell her name wrong). She told me that the photo is from 2022. Check it out at: .. https://tsunamirangers.com/2023/03/06/a-rock-gardening-state-of-mind/

Paddling back from a fun kayak/ costeering session in East Point, Nahant (see trip report here), Bob Levine and I came across a car wheel with a fully inflated tire floating happily about 1.3 NM from Fisherman Beach. Considerations were made but ultimately (and against common sense probably) we decided to take it to shore. I tried towing but progress was too slow and Bob proposed to carry it. So we tied the wheel on top of the front deck of his Explorer with my short tow and off we went. I think we both half expected a capsize but Bob kept his balance which was good because a roll would have been somewhat difficult to manage ?! The recovery was successfully and the wheel deposited by a trash can on Humphrey Street. If you are in need of one, it still may be there. Now, where is the rest of the car?

Three years or gaskets is a decent amount of time. If you don't apply 303 or similar, or leave them out in the sun, a long time. I have replaced them myself in the past, a lot cheaper.
