  1. I'll chat with Gary but I think this should happen and maybe I can do something about that 😉
  2. This is a Level 3 trip that welcomes those new to kayak camping, and is a reunion for those of us who don't see each other often enough. Here's a great opportunity for you paddlers who would like to try kayak camping without the pesky bugs (beware of ticks!). This is a replacement for this year's May trip, for which mother nature had other plans. Jewell has many campsites and several outhouses. The Common Adventure Model (CAM) will be adopted. Here is a general thread for expressing interest, forming pods, etc. Please RSVP on the calendar, linked below. This is my first time organizing a trip of this nature (under Gary's tutelage), so feedback is especially welcome.

Edit: There’s room for more! PM me This is a Level 3 trip that welcomes those new to kayak camping, and is a reunion for those of us who don't see each other often enough. Here's a great opportunity for you paddlers who would like to try kayak camping without the pesky bugs (beware of ticks!). This is a replacement for this year's May trip, for which mother nature had other plans. Jewell has many campsites and several outhouses. The Common Adventure Model (CAM) will be adopted The SUGGESTED itinerary is as follows: THURSDAY or FRIDAY: Arrive at _____ (multiple launch site options, with each pod working out details privately or on NSPN Message Board under "trips") on Thursday or Friday, October 12 or 13, in plenty of time for a ______am launch (high tides are 10:29 am and 11:04 am respectively). If you are new to kayak camping, you may need extra time packing your boat, so plan on arriving two hours prior. FRIDAY and SATURDAY: Agenda TBD-bring your ideas for a day paddle or island activities. Prior trips have included Whaleboat/Little Whaleboat, Eagle, Great Diamond, geocaching, Jewell's WW1 and WW2 military installations, and general camaraderie/gourmet foods around the camp fire. SUNDAY: Back to cars via ?? If you would like to join this group of friendly paddlers, or have any questions about this trip, launch points, or camping in general, Private Message (PM) me. When you can commit, please RSVP HERE ON THE CALENDAR. Closer to the event, you will be asked to provide details for the group roster spreadsheet.
  4. This trip report may be useful, Joe's original posting has details on parking etc: https://www.nspn.org/forum/topic/13931-wed-lunch-paddle-912021-rockport-to-thacher-island/ https://www.nspn.org/forum/topic/13926-wed-lunch-paddle-912021-rockport-granite-pier/
  5. The unusual cargo arrived at its disposal point without incident… mission accomplished.
  6. Posting here to gauge interest, details TBD As an antidote to the parades and cookouts, would anyone without such plans like to go out on Memorial Day? L2-L3 trip. I'm inclined towards Boston Harbor, but very open to suggestions based on conditions. High tide 12:19pm. Reply here or PM me to discuss.
  7. I like Dan's suggestion of having the lunch potluck on an island (the adventurous paddlers coming from the North could launch from Winthrop...) Or is it important that the potluck be post paddle, on the mainland? I see advantages to both approaches.
  8. Count me in. I can also vouch for the ease of use of the Little Mystic ramp.
  9. Does anyone else here paddle a wooden boat, or anything else with hard hatch covers? No critter has yet to succeed in breaching my built in defenses of 3 buckle straps and 6mm plywood to reach my floating grocery store. How about turning boats upside down? Dan-what an ingenious use of the Dutch oven lid!
  10. I took some time to explore the other buildings on the island, namely the exhibits in the fog signal building and former keeper's house, and just generally enjoying the view. Adding some photos here...
  11. I just got back from two nights on Little Chebeague and it was swarming with summer camp groups from Rippleffect. I wonder when they wrap up for the season, and what islands they tend to camp on.
