  1. It was fun spending a day with Willem. He is a real character.
  2. Thanks Gary, I have not yet seen the episode. They collected about 20 hours of footage including drone flights on a beautiful day with really nice sea conditions. It will be interesting to see how they distill it down into a 30 minute segment.
  3. It is worth mentioning that MCHT has made some acquisitions that directly benefit the Maine Island Trail and boater access. A few years ago with the support of MITA members, MCHT purchased Ram Island in Machias Bay, a key link on the Maine Island Trail. This year MCHT purchased a parcel in Baileys Mistake on the Bold Coast to secure a launch site for local fishermen and recreational boaters. MCHT and MITA have partnered on several other acquisitions in the past and on stewardship activities. Thanks for your consideration in supporting these important initiatives.
  4. Prudence you write a great trip report. What a wonderful trip. Glad to see you had Camille and Barb along which guarantees good humor and fun.
  5. Joe another spectacular trip on the Bold Coast. I am glad you tested out paddling against the ebb. From my experience there are more near eddy currents on ebb as compared to flood. With every trip, we all learn more about this wonderful area. I am sorry that I missed the fun.
  6. My gmail address is Carrpediem1@gmail.com. My spouse Pam is coming on the trip too. I hope that is factored into the #s. Looking forward to the trip. Thanks Dan
  7. You are welcome. See MITAs upcoming newsletter for more details. Some of the 12 are still active in the organization.
  8. Today is the 30th anniversary of the Maine Island Trail -- the day in 1988 when 12 citizens met to form the Maine Island Trail Association and create "an outstanding waterway for small boats" along the coast of Maine. Since then, more than 33,000 coastal explorers and stewards have helped ensure that over 200 wild islands on the Trail remain pristine and accessible. Congratulations, MITA, from Maine's Congressional Delegation! https://vimeo.com/271339675

  10. Joe, There were no minutes taken. We gave presentations on MITA's rationale for adding the Bold Coast, Observations and Perceptions from Scouting, and introduced the MITA guide content for 2018. We are doing the talks again at MITA's office on Wednesday May 30th from 5 to 7 pm. If you come up, perhaps we could grab dinner and catch up. Look for an email. Dan
  11. Joe, I would love to go but I will just be coming back from Sanguenay NP. You picked some days with relatively big tides which could be interesting.
  12. Thanks for the great turnout last night. It was nice to see so many enthusiastic paddlers ready for spring. MITA is planning on a second Bold Coast event in Portland in May. Please indicate interest in the May event and provide constructive comments on the event last night. We are always looking to improve communications. Regards, Dan

  18. I am planning on attending this. I would be happy to give a report on MITA's initiative to add the Bold Coast to the Maine Island Trail in 5 minutes or less if you think that would be ok.
  19. I am interested in this trip, please keep me in the loop. Dan
  20. Gary, I am thinking of going to the film fest as I missed the showing in Portland. Perhaps we could catch up on the Bold Coast survey results.
  21. The poll will close by the end of the week, so please provide input Thanks Dan
  22. The Maine Island Trail Association established a Meetup site last year and now has about 275 members. Activity on the site has really spiked and I believe a larger number of the members are younger although those stats are not tracked. It has been a great way for MITA members to link up for some paddling fun. Check out the site http://www.meetup.com/mitameetup/
