Anyone up for a leisurely paddle or a distance paddle on the Merrimack from Cashman Park? PM me or post here. I can be ready at a moment's notice. Please also post any objections, since I might go by myself if no one can join me. Don't mean to hijack this thread but I see that a lot of people are reading it currently.

I am very interested. NOAA currently predicts for tomorrow: SW winds 10 to 15 kt. Gusts up to 20 kt in the afternoon. Waves 1 foot or less. Given increasing winds over the course of the day, would it make sense to have BIW earlier? Would probably also help with parking. I'm up for anything though.

Just ordered Jeff Allens Throw Tow in the UK. It is a brilliant combination of contact -tow, short-tow, long-tow and - what I like best - a throw bag. There will surely be situations were you can't get close to the rescuee near rocks where a throw bag will come in handy.

Warren: Rob and I did simulate a vicious bear attack! We were first attracted to your corner of the camp by food lying around. We made quite a bit of noise sniffing around. Then we both roared at the top of our voices. No reaction! Nothing! Just soft, rhythmic breathing with an occasional gentle snore from within your tent. We gave up and went back to our respective mobile dens. I guess that demonstrates that at least your ear plugs are bear-proof!

Rick, looking at the Difficult Landings video again and reading your words about simultaneous bow and stern-lines leading to landing paddler and still in boat paddler, how do you manage the enormous forces if the boat cannot swivel freely like in the video? I see danger of the lines being ripped out of people's hands, people being ripped back into the water under the circumstances in the video.

Love the pockets and have used them from the get-go. Love the hood as well. No felt resistance while rolling. I suspect I'll get into winter camping and that hood takes the bite out of the wind right away (unless coming from front).

In some Norwegian videos I have seen people do what seems to amount to the Taco during partner rescue, instead of heel-hook. That may be a good alternative for people with less agility due to hip/knee/ankle problems. Unfortunately, if you have long legs like me, neither the cowboy nor the Taco work well, since I really have to push myself back and up to fit my legs under the cockpit rim, which creates some instability by elevating the center of gravity up and back. I have not tried either in real conditions. I'm working on getting the re-entry roll done much faster. Advantage of Taco-Cowboy is of course that the boat is empty. I still struggle very much with a half full boat after re-entry roll. Either way, one has to deal with instability for some time, whether due to body position or water in the boat (followed by instability during pumping water out). Lorrie et al.: Do you have any preference in conditions, Taco-Cowboy vs. re-entry-roll?

I am interested in the L3 pod. I still have to look into schedule issues so this is prelim with a strong interest.
