Pinniped family and freind kayak camping trip Stonington Maine
jmcotton replied to ssmith's topic in Trip Reports
What a wonderful trip report Sherry! It sounds great with learning, family/friend fun, great food and beautiful nature. I look forward to hearing more about it in person. Now I'm really excited about the Saddleback trip this coming weekend! Janice -
Thank you Katherine for organizing an outstanding ladies camping trip. The site was perfect as was the weather and company. We all had many excellent paddles. The pod that did not want to paddle the distance to Easter Egg Island (and back!) had such a wonderful paddle, noodling around Friendship Long Island, Cranberry, Black and in and out of coves that we ended up paddling well over 14-15 miles! It was just beautiful with so many bird sightings, including a pair of bald eagles soaring. We had delightful paddles every day with various groupings and enjoyed great food and company. There was also a lot of swimming I really enjoyed paddling with new and old friends Janice

Thanks Cathy, Kevin and Rick for organizing the L3 solstice paddle. It was great to see so many people in all of the groups too. Kevin, I can't open the pictures you posted. It says "invalid security code" when I click on "here". Thanks, Janice

Ditto! My kayak is on my car, ready for tonight after work. We practice and play in the cove to the left of the boat ramp. To get there google Chebbaco boat ramp. People generally show up between 5:00 and 5:30 and get off the water as it gets dark. See you there! Janice

Now that those visions of turkey or tofu (and pumpkin pie Katherine!) are in our tummies or still being sought after, it's time to post what food you will bring to the holiday party as IT'S THIS SATURDAY! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone. Janice
-
I'll bring a cauliflower, chickpea, peanut curry - gluten free but it has peanut butter. Everything sounds wonderful so far! Janice

While you have visions of turkey, tofu and pie in your head it's a good time to think about what food you will bring to our holiday party Dec 6TH. Last year we had a wonderful feast. There is a kitchen in the Gould Barn with a stove (small) to heat up anything if you need to. In addition to food, bring a beverage of your choice. We'll have paper goods and some soda. Please post here what you plan to bring to the party. You can just post a food category (i.e. veggie entree, meat entree, appetizer, dessert, side) if you don't know exactly what you'll bring yet so everyone can see what food categories need filling. See you there! Janice and Pru

Low-probability/High-consequence Wet Exits
jmcotton replied to leong's topic in General Message Board
Happy, happy birthday Katherine! I am SO glad you are here to enjoy it! I've seen you successfully practice your wet exit in your new boat ...Yea! Thanks for sharing your experience. This thread has been great. It does raise all of our worst fears, getting stuck in our boat...out there in current. I ordered a neoprene spray skirt earlier this summer, my first neoprene skirt and after soaking it and leaving it on the cockpit to stretch it I went out with friends and a coach and tried a wet exit with our coach standing besides me. I could not get the skirt off after a number of attempts and she also could not get it off me and had to roll me up. The spray skirt was a snapdragon expedition model which is thick and not stretchy (and wasn't actually what I'd ordered!). I broke my left wrist this past January and I was used to holding my paddle in my right hand and pulling the easy to release nylon sprayskirt with my left - and had the bad habit of not really needing to lean forward and pull hard forward to get the skirt off. After reading all of this thread and talking with people and checking out what other people have for skirts, I bought a snapdragon glacier flirt model with a safety strap last Friday. I soaked it and put it on my cockpit for 24 hours and went out Sunday and successfully did a wet exit. Whew! Here's to many more practice wet exits. I can get it off pulling the loop, pulling the edge, and pulling the safety strap It's now my turn to go to Cohasset with our coach this Saturday to practice current work. Wish me luck! Janice Cohasset this Saturday for current work with our coach. -
