  1. Sorry but I’m gonna bail as well. My shoulder is just not up for a paddle.
  2. Paddling out to see these fireworks sounds like such a great time, but, as a morning person, the idea of walking up to get cars AFTER fireworks does not sound so fun. I’m sure Kittery Point is best, and I’ll just have to try to sleep in that morning. THANKS, Jim!
  3. Sounds exactly right, especially the parts about the great weather, lovely companions, perfect planning, the right price, and the contrasting launch and landing spots. My only question: There was wind coming back? thanks so much for suggesting the paddle!
  4. Agree that a state park is sounding bad. One other place I’ve launched that would be a possibility is Traip Academy. So long as school is out, there’s plenty of parking just up from the ramp. I wouldn’t use it when motor boats are likely to be launching or landing as the ramp is small and access to it is limited. But it’s easy to use even at low tide and had a clean porta potty with a welcome mat. https://maps.app.goo.gl/fU9F7KCb8a9bkxHw5?g_st=ic Edit: changed link
  5. I wonder if we could contact Fort Stark and ask if a volunteer there would open the parking lot for us, perhaps if we paid them or made a contribution? @billvossi know you spoke to a volunteer who opens the gates early. Do you know how to get in contact?
  6. I'm quite interested, and I'm happy to give Walden a try or Upper Mystic (love a free parking lot). Hart Pond in Chelmsford would be closest for me, so that's a plus. It has free parking, but the lot is used by people on the adjoining rail trail so it can get pretty full. Lake Cochituate is pretty far for me and, as a state park, I imagine it's expensive for non-MA people. I'm also happy to do early morning with Prudence, but if we want to make this a regular event we should plan for people who have jobs.
  7. A barrel with no lid. One end open and other end closed? Can a tool be taken to put a towline through the closed end? Would that be more like towing a helmet with the nice, rounded, water-dynamic dome pointed to the boat rather than the chin strap? Sounds like a fun challenge. Hope I can make it
  8. Definitely had enough fun last year to do it again!
  9. I was just looking at the meetup group and I only see the Wilderness First Aid listed as an upcoming event. Did I miss something or will NTSKW also be listed there soon?
  10. Sorry that I can’t help this year. I’ll be visiting family in Texas. Hope you have a good turn.
  11. Rob, thanks so much for all the work you've put into the club over the years. I know those efforts started before your presidency, and I hope they'll continue long after it. I'm sure you'll remain a resource for Sue as she takes up the reins. Sue, thanks so much for taking this on! I'm sure it'll be a ton of work, but I'm sure you're up to the job. Looks like we have a great board to keep us on track. Thanks, all!
  12. The National Weather Service has issued a gale watch from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=gyx&product=CWF&format=CI&version=1&glossary=0 I’m still considering but leaning towards canceling. I wonder what others are thinking.
  13. It was really a perfect paddle. The weather was just gorgeous, we were a very companionable lot, and the group that came back through the marsh got lots of variety of environment. I didn’t mind the bit of wind and wave we encountered as we approached the harbor, but avoiding it all the way back was just fine. Next time, we’ll do better on planning the post-paddle refreshments.
  14. It was such a gorgeous day for this trip and having so many hours to explore the islands was such a treat. Thanks, of course, to Jim for all the organizing and to everyone for the great company. Question: The mileage says 8.7 km. Should that be 8.7 nm? While we didn't exactly do a ton of miles, but it seemed like more than 4.7 nautical.
  15. I signed up and would love to come, but please bump me if there’s someone with less experience and who can’t make Wednesday paddles.
  16. It was a gorgeous day and a very nice group of people to paddle with. Thanks to all, especially Joe. I was exhausted when we got to the beach after Misery. I’ve never been strong but these months after surgery certainly put me behind schedule for developing my summer paddling stamina. Luckily, I know the solution: more paddling. Hope to see everyone very soon.
  17. Thanks. For some unknown reason, this wasn’t the top item on the NYT homepage. Go figure. The explanations are very good but I have to agree with the many commenters who are upset about the use of a PFD-less paddler. Would have been much better to show the movement of the PFD zipper when properly rotating.
  18. I doubt I’ll be able to make this so feel free to ignore, BUT isn’t the point of the potluck to have everyone together? How is that accomplished if each pod does their own thing or the potluck is at a place beyond the skill level of some participants? Or did I misunderstand the suggestion?
  19. Signed up. Looking forward to it. Thanks for getting this organized!
