  1. I did this trip in 2017. It was off the charts! Check it out https://www.ospreyseaandsurf.com/adventure-travel.htm
  2. I'm thinking, while I haven't measured it, feels like mid-60's.
  3. Mike, Any idea on water temps today (6/21)?
  4. Pablo, I've been enjoying the GAIA gps app (www.gaiagps.com)
  5. Sue, I've been using these for years, in fact just bought a second backup pair. I particularly like them with my drysuit. I buy them a size bigger to allow for ample socks and to allow airflow. I don't get cold feet with them. https://www.nrs.com/product/2335/nrs-atb-wetshoe
  6. Had a meeting cancel, so had some time to kill. NOTE: Robert, I'm not absolutely sure on this, but I think the shuttle from River Head to West Beach would be more like 45 minutes especially on a Saturday afternoon. West Beach had been "floated" at one point. And while it's still early out, and things can change, I suggest leaving it near the top of the list based on the following: ample parking for a group this large therefore no shuttling, tide cycle timing for launch and return, opportunity for multiple trips (Baker/Misery, Manchester Coast east with options for lunch break in both places) reasonableness of swell and conditions based on the point forecast and Cape Ann surf report and finally if the point holds up, the inshore winds are very reasonable. 7. This is one way of dealing with boat traffic... https://www.facebook.com/groups/120559614677761/permalink/1717771914956515/
  8. I'm in for a paddle out of the general area on Saturday. I'll defer to the group's decision. I'll watch for details.
  9. My spot is available on 1/27 at no charge to the first person who responds to the forum. Non-ACA members will have to bring a $5 payment with their waiver. Cheers!
  10. Jim, Very interested but traveling for work.
  11. I have the same issue without any option to reschedule. Per Terese's request is there any chance of recording and archiving on the NSPN site, much like if someone missed a given webinar the option exists to go back at a later date. John's presentation are so highly regarded that they would also have value to not-yet club members who would then have the option of viewing them as a part of their own progression up the learning curve. Notwithstanding copyright issues does it make sense to also consider a place on the site to catalog other videos, links to videos, articles etc by category say: strokes, safety, weather, navigation, kayak camping, leadership, skin-on-frame, gear, repair etc. etc. It could be a distinct added value of club membership. I know I've benefited by the many referrals and citations I've come across through the message board and while some could be found through the "search" function a designated place with some basic categories signals the continued value of learning within the club's DNA and ensures easy accessibility.
  12. The reservation is set for 1:30PM under "David" at https://redheattavern.com/ , 300 Lowell Street, Wilmington MA.
  13. Hey Folks, Loosely considering travel time for all that have posted interest (North Shore, Metro North, Cambridge and Southern New Hampshire) this is one "central" option in WIlmington MA off of I-93 in Wilmington. https://redheattavern.com/ I've been there once and was very happy with the ambience, and menu. Any interest? I'd be glad to make the reservation for say 1:30 PM (Per the suggestion earlier in the thread).
  14. Andy, I missed your earlier question of what we were wearing. Naturally, all were in drysuits. I'm fairly certain, all, if not the majority, were clad in balaclavas with helmets as an extra layer. At the outset rockplay down the coast to Rye was an option, but as the route shows we opted for circumnav of New Castle and Pierce. But, now that I think of it, the helmet is definitely an effective windstop. Some wore pogies, some simply gloves. A conversation throughout the paddle was the pros and cons of pogies. I once again opted for my Kokatat one piece polartec layer over a Columbia reflective primary wicking layer and a midweight Kokatat midlayer. I tried out my new NRS Maxim gloves. They use 3mm in key places and 2mm in others and are fleece-lined. They are now my go to gloves. For shoes I went with my winter approach to footwear. I purchased the NRS ATB boot in a full size larger than I normally wear. It allows me to wear a silk liner and a thicker smartwool sock. By going with the size larger and the ATB sole compression/restricting circulation and conduction are greatly minimized. The ATB has a very thick sole. Anyway, I was comfortable from head to toe. I wet-burped my drysuit at launch and lunch and then completed three very quick rolls near the takeout. Both the burping and rolls were surreal. I had no sense of cold-other than the small exposed circle of my face.
  15. Great trip. Wonderful group. Fun day. Perfect weather to get out on the water when temps are tanking. Chosen course did a nice job of mitigating the negatives and optimizing the persistent west winds. Thanks for organizing John!
  16. Thanks John. If the conditions, especially sea state, are accommodating, which they are currently projected to be, I'm in favor of launching no matter what the wind chill. My thought is that with sea conditions essentially a non-issue we can respond to the forecasted wind and wc with gear. I've found these kinds of conditions (controlling for sea state) to be a good test of gear and gauging personal comfort levels with manageable risk. It can be a cold water workshop of sorts without planned immersion.
