  1. WOW. Congratulations on an incredible expedition. As always, I love reading your TRs (although I am mostly a lurker here). Plus--PUFFINS!
  2. Wow. Very interesting to see a number of the skills we practiced at the Marblehead skill session used in this video. Incredibly instructional. And sobering. I hope he recovers quickly. Also, I think this is off of Cushing Island, not Eagle Island.
  3. I just signed up for this. Running out this afternoon to get a helmet!
  4. Very enjoyable paddle. Thanks for organizing Rob. Great to meet everyone.
  5. So happy to see this TR--this is a favorite paddle of mine. Last year parking near Tuck Point was really tough. I take it they are allowing on-street parking down there again?
  6. Is there still room to sign up for this? I just saw this trip listing or would have signed up earlier. I did the Odiorne Point Paddle last weekend and have all needed safety equipment.
  7. A mutual friend (Jeff) was there last (?) weekend and said they were horrendous. (Maybe you were also there?) Anyway, one person's tent was COVERED in ticks. He also said permethrin on clothes worked to keep them off. Did not endear me to go there this year. YUCK.
  8. Hi there, I'd like to join. I have all needed equipment. I've never paddled that area before, so it will be fun to check it out. I've been on a couple of NSPN trips in the past, but it's been a few years.
  9. A few years back I flew home from India, and was thrilled to fly directly over the coast of Maine on a cloudless, beautiful day. I was able to spot every place I had kayaked and camped all along the way home. A great re-entry.
  10. I completely agree, it's amazingly peaceful (generally, depending where you are) and just stunning. One of my favorite places to paddle period. On the Cape, I've found Salt Pond Bay/Nauset marsh to be equally beautiful.
  11. Update that someone just posted that Lanes Cove is now resident only. Jones Launch in Gloucester is open to nonresidents, although there is a sign on the road to the launch that says residents only, but that is for Wingaersheek beach.
  12. We launched from Jones Landing on Saturday. To avoid a long walk, launch 2 hours before/after low tide. Footing is solid sand. Note that if you go on a weekend, you will run into a TON of loud, stinky boat traffic. They are moving slow, so it never felt dangerous, but it's not peaceful (still a pretty area though). Also upsetting to see the flotillas of boats with zero social distancing. COVID central. Winds and seas were mellow, so we paddled over to lunch on Crane Beach, then into Essex Bay for a calm, gorgeous paddle around Choate Island. So, a highly recommended--weekday--paddle.
  13. WOW! Thanks for posting this.
  14. I don't know how many here like to paddle in Essex Bay, but the public boat ramp is closed to non-residents: https://www.essexma.org/home/news/boat-ramp-town-landing-closed-non-residents-july-31-until-october-1-2020 Also, all parking access to Tuck Point in Beverly is marked with "Resident Parking only, tow zone" everywhere around that area of town. I'd love to know where we CAN put in.
