  1. Doug... Thanks for taking pictures! They really look great Until next time...
  2. I have the Cannon Elura mini DV. I have had good luck with it and really like the picture it provides. I am not a techie but when I read very technical assessments of similar cameras, the Elura had better low-light filming and was better to adjust manually, if that is your thing. The techies said that it was the best buy for price, etc. and if you were going to get higher quality, the next step is a major leap in price. The strap and feel wasn't as comfortable as the Sony Handycams, but the performance was better and it does have an external mic jack. In some of the reviews there were complaints about motor noise, but I found it was no different than any of the other cameras. Another plus is the zoom and the widescreen - it is true widescreen... it doesn't just crop off the top and bottom of an image. I bought it last December from the online vendor 6th avenue electronics. It was around $100 cheaper (about $268 at the time??) than in any store and/or other online venue. I also really like the miniDV tapes, etc. They are cheap, easy and compact. A lot more bang for your buck in a camera to use this type of recording media. Hope this helps. Shaila
  3. Funny, I got that email forward through a different line of people. I foster dogs for NEARR (North East All Retriever Rescue) and I emailed the address of the people with the puppies to let them know that they can contact NEARR. If they are still having trouble, let me know. Shaila
  4. Very cool video indeed! Thanks for all the feedback. I am a big fan of asking those with experience...
  5. Could anyone suggest a good waterproof camera? Also, do you use the camera for everyday pictures or just for in/near the water? Thanks Shaila
  6. I am interested for sure! I just want to make sure I bring the right kayak for the trip Shaila
  7. Oops..... yes, the 13th. And Kevin - I would love to go but I need to be back at my house by 9:30 or 10 at the latest. Does this work for you?
  8. I may be crazy , but I am considering an early paddle tomorrow morning (9/12). Launch from the put-in at the end of Leach St. Salem around 6:30-7am and return by 9:30ish. It will be near low tide, but shouldn't be a problem at the launch site. I just want to get out on the water once more before I leave town for a few days. Shaila
  9. Great Chicken, Great Slaw, Great Company:) Thanks again Nicole and Shaila
  10. I am planning on making it See you Tuesday! Shaila
  11. Could you show a gmaps pedometer of the route? I am not familiar with the area. Thanks! Shaila
  12. Sounds great! I'll be there. Thanks for setting this up! Shaila
  13. As a beginner, it would be great if people posted level 2, 2+ trips as well. That being said, I understand that these are Private Trips and not club trips so there is no responsibility or obligation to provide lower-level options. I really have gotten a lot of information from paddling with more experienced people and I think that kind of learning is invaluable. I also think it would give me a gauge for whether I would be ready and could go on some level 3 trips. Shaila
  14. Great Job Suwin!!! You looked awesome. I also liked your technique with the unconventional "rescue" by Mary B.
  15. I can make it! Yay! Full contact games are on! Shaila
  16. Nicole and I are going to Portland (OR) in September and we wanted to know if anyone had any info on kayaking destinations. We are looking for places (or an outfitter) very near to the city or in the Columbia River Gorge area. Basically we want to do a lower level paddle to just get out on the water and enjoy the scenery. Thanks in advance. Shaila
  17. I have a 6-person "dome with lockers" tent... it may be a bit too big, but you are welcome to it:) It does "fairly well" in the rain... it is a Sears tent... not high end. To get an idea, it is big enough to fit a queen sized air mattress and bags. Set-up is average... not too terribly quick.
  18. Thanks again everyone for a great day. It was a combination of good conversation and new challenges! Everyone was very encouraging and I was very happy to have the experience of paddling on some not-so-smooth water in the company of season veterans:) It feels great to test my paddling skills and my kayak did surprisingly well in those kinds of conditions. I came back with another trip under my belt and a couple of great pointers on my forward stroke... which I will be testing out this week. It is amazing that I just started paddling this year - a great testament to everyone's tips and patience at the practice sessions:) Thanks again for setting the trip up and I am already excited for the next one!

  21. I have been dreaming of going back to Holbox for a few years now.... has it recovered from the Hurricane? I know it really got nailed... the highest point on the island is only a couple of feet above sea level. When I was there we stayed at this great eco-friendly place called Chimay. It sits all alone on the western part of the island. Thanks for sharing your trip... do you have any pics? Shaila
  22. I am all ears when it comes to easy loading systems... let me know if anyone has them for sale...
