  1. As always a great report Pru. Sadly there was no Guinness on our part of the trip. Will remember to bring some next year. I have linked below Days 1 and 2 of the Muscle Ridge section. Unfortunately I forgot to switch my gps on until we had covered a few miles. Day 1 Friday 9/20 Day 2 Saturday 9/21 Barry.
  2. Gary, Thanks for facilitating this trip. It was a wonderful weekend on the Maine coast. You can find my pictures here. Barry
  3. Gary, Thanks for facilitating again this year. Add me to the list. Barry.
  4. I can do either Saturday or Sunday. Barry.
  5. Thanks for the update Prudence. Thats too bad! It was a good solution for day trips to Thatcher. If I recall some of the metered spots allowed for up to 5 hours, but that may have changed as well. Barry.
  6. Christopher, I hope to make it as well. Thanks, Barry.
  7. Hi Norm, I have had good luck with the in-town launch in Rockport itself, even in July and August. It's not obvious but there is a public launch (see marker on this map) right in town, it's tucked between two stores and there is a concrete ramp to the water. You can pull in (best to back in) unload and then you have to find parking. There are metered spots immediately in town or if you are willing to walk a couple of blocks there is free on street parking. I think before 9am on a sunday there should be plenty of parking. The trailer may be a challenge and your best bet would be to find onstreet parking with a long enough space. Barry.
  8. Note however that in Maine and Massachusetts the public does have certain limited rights to the intertidal zone. This article does a good job of summarizing them. It should also be pointed out that the limited coastal access in ME/MA is an aberration when compared internationally or even to other states. Barry.
  9. Just got the delivery notice text message from Amazon.com ... should be here today! Really looking forward to reading it. Barry.
  10. Hi Warren, Would love to hear if you have done any winter camping trips so far. On the topic of stoves and winter this article caught my attention. There was a related discussion on vftt.org (thanks to Rene my other favorite discussion board!) in which a number of people recommended the Svea 123R stove based on it's reliability (brass parts) and cold weather ability. Barry.
  11. From the jetboil faq ... Does Jetboil work in cold weather? All canister stoves suffer a performance drop in cold weather. The colder the fuel, the lower the vapor pressure, and the lower the burner output. The result can be noticeably longer boil times and difficulty lighting the burner with the built-in piezoelectric ignitor. Jetpower’s lower firing rate reduces canister cooling and increases performance. Jetpower fuel, with propane, helps mitigate cold weather problems. We suggest that you keep the canister in a warm pocket between uses and remove it immediately prior to heating your food. Carry an extra canister and keep it warm to swap out with a cold one when necessary, and always carry matches or a lighter as backup.
  12. As long as they dont get these guys to take care of it ... Barry.

  15. Another good Sea Kayak "porn" site is http://seakayakphoto.blogspot.com/ also love Simon Willis's pod cast site ... http://www.seakayakpodcasts.com/Main.html Barry.
  16. I love Old Quarry and was heart broken to have to cancel this years trip due to work (I had booked last january the much coveted site # 10 which is right on the water, although all of the sites are great, even the overflow one in the parking lot that we wound up in one july weekend). Good on Bill! Barry.
  17. Most pumpout stations are funded by the clean water act and are free to use. http://www.mass.gov/czm/nda/pumpouts/index.htm I was talking to the warden on Washburn Island in Waquoit bay last year and he said he could sometimes smell sewage from the mass of boats that moor there. Completely unforegivable! Barry.
  18. Terrific report Gary! I love this area, spent a couple of lazy days on the beach in Georgetown last weekend so just missed you. >> I set up camp noon-ish, then delivered a box of fresh pastries to the gracious owners, an insufficient “thank–you” for their offer of a waterfront paradise. always a class act! Barry
  19. Stunning! Do you know how hard it is to face in the day in the office after watching that! Barry
  20. Hi Marc, Definitely interested! Will confirm by friday morning. Barry.
