I have been trying to find new bungee cord for my decks but locally all they have is 1/4 inch and it is too big to go through the fittings of my Valley Nordkapp. West Marine has this: https://www.westmarine.com/new-england-ropes-6mm-shock-cord-sold-by-the-foot-17986886.html at 6 mm it is a tiny bit smaller. Does anyone know if that would work? Other suggestions? Liz

I've seen it. I'd love to help. I could donate lots of bubble wrap -- ugh, plastic, I know -- to fill the cavity and keep it buoyant for the tow. Of course, it would be riding very high and get blown around if there is wind ... Liz

They air lifted it. Pretty impressive. I think they are sparrows but only got a quick glimpse of Mom.

I leave my Tilley handing in my garage, with other critical gear. Yesterday I noticed some twigs sticking out. I moved the hat slightly and there was a tussle inside so I stopped and did not actually look inside. I thought about ditching the nest so I can use my favorite hat for May paddles, but today Mom and Dad were out and I gently took it down (using the neck strap) and inside were 3 TINY TINY babies. Gotta leave them alone to grow up. Last summer robins roosted on top of my hoe, also hanging in my garage, and raised 2 clutches. Liz

So frustrating, but I'm watching the westerly winds create whitecaps on Ipswich Bay and this forecast is too risky for paddling in the dark: This Afternoon W wind around 15 kt, with gusts as high as 23 kt. Sunny. Seas 1 ft or less. Tonight WNW wind 5 to 7 kt becoming variable and less than 5 kt after midnight. Mostly clear. Seas 1 ft or less. Hopefully another month! Liz After the delightful full moon paddle at MDI, we should do it again. Sunday, October 9 sunset at 6:12 PM (Nautical twilight 7:13 PM) moonrise at 6:20 PM low tide: 5:32 PM high tide: 11:50 PM Launch Location: "The Greasy Pole" - boat ramp at the downtown end of Stacy Boulevard. The plan is to launch at 4 PM, and paddle for a couple of hours before the moon rise. The route will be based on conditions. Possibilities include: 1) paddle out the west side of Gloucester Harbor, past Norman's Woe to Magnolia for a short break. Watch the moon rise out of the ocean on the way back. 2) noodle through the harbor, land at lighthouse beach (just past the Annisquam yacht club), walk out to the end of Dogbar breakwater to watch the moon rise out of the ocean. Return to boats and paddle back. (Note: It likely will be VERY cold on the breakwater.) 3) paddle straight out Gloucester Harbor, around Dogbar breakwater to Brace's Cove. Watch the moon rise out of the ocean. Paddle back. (Note, the landing spot will have lots of boulders.) But wait, there's more! Come early to walk the boulevard and see the dazzling dahlias. I just spoke with Lobster Buoy. I'll be arriving Thursday evening and they said I could camp at the group site. I'll pay the private rate for that night. If anyone else wants to arrive then, let me know. I also asked about a cooking grill. We can build a fire in the fire ring and get a rack to place over it at the office if one is not there. Showers require quarters. Liz
