Pool
Practice
NSPN rents swimming pools in several locations during the winter so members
can work on specific skills on their own or with peers. A nice, warm pool
is a great place to:
- Do your first wet exit
- Learn to brace
- Learn solo and assisted rescues
- Work on that roll!
Pool sessions are open to paid members only and require a fee to cover
the cost of renting the pool (typically $15-25, and advance signup and
payment because of space limits in pools.
How to sign up for and attend an NSPN pool session.
- Pick one or more pool sessions from the NSPN calendar.
- E-mail the designated registrar for those pool sessions (there is
usually a registrar for all sessions in a given pool) with:
- Your Name.
- Your emergency contact name and phone number.
- Your contact e-mail address, if it’s not the return address
on your message.
- Your contact phone, for last-minute changes such as cancellation.
- The registrar will e-mail you back telling whether there is room in
the session(s) or whether you are on the waiting list
- As soon as possible, mail the registrar a check made out to NSPN for
the cost of each session you are registered for (not for waiting list
sessions). If there is insufficient time before the session, the registrar
may tell you to pay at the pool.
- Show up at the pool session at least 15 minutes before the scheduled
start, to allow time to unload boats and carry them to the pool; for
some sessions, arrival time may need to be even earlier, and this will
be specified in the calendar announcement.
Upon arrival the pool coordinator or registrar will:
- Collect the pool session fee if you have not already paid it.
- Help carry the boats into the pool.
- Have fun practicing!
- Help carry the boats back out of the pool.
Don’t forget the PPPO afterwards
