Organizational Structure & Bylaws
NSPN is incorporated in Massachusetts as a not-for-profit charitable
organization and has been determined to be a tax-exempt organization under
section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Purposes of NSPN Are:
- To educate individuals for the purpose of improving or developing
their capabilities as sea kayakers, through workshops, clinics and group
paddling trips.
- To instruct the public with respect to sea kayaking safety in order
to improve maritime safety and compliance with Coast Guard regulations
and ”rules of the road“ in navigable waters, through a website,
participation in public events, and other means.
- To foster and encourage sea kayaking education and safety, through
collaboration with other clubs, the Coast Guard, local harbormasters
and other entities.
- To advance the conservation and protection of the marine environment
through coordinated educational and conservation programs such as “Leave
No Trace”.
Membership
Any person may become a member by simply signing up on our Messsage
Board. There are two levels of membership. Paid Members and unpaid
members. Paid members get additional benefits. Click

Board of Directors
The Board of Directors manages the business of the club. Board members
have the following responsibilities: electing the club's officers (President,
Vice-President, Clerk and Treasurer) from its members; electing Directors
for the following year; attending monthly meetings; serving on committees;
educating people about the club; and establishing and carrying out club
policies and programming.

Board of Directors - Elections
The Board of Directors consists of 9-14 members who are elected by the
current Board members to serve one-year terms, commencing each January
1. A Call for Nominations is placed on the message board in October. Any
paid member in good standing, can serve on the Board or nominate others
to do so. The election takes place at the Board's November meeting. The
Board pre-determines the size of the Board needed for the upcoming year.
Each Board member anonymously votes for that number of directors. The
Clerk tallies the votes. The results are posted on the general message
board and the new Board is introduced at the annual Holiday and Awards
Party.
